I've been painting for over 20 years, but my love for art started long before I ever held a brush. As a child, I spent my days trailing behind my grandpa on the farm, my small hands gripping a sketchbook while he moved through his daily chores. No matter how much work there was to do, he always took the time to pause—to notice the way the morning light danced across the fields, to listen for a bird’s song, to admire the shape of a leaf. “Pay attention,” he’d tell me. “Beauty is everywhere, but you have to learn to look for it.”

That lesson stayed with me. We’d spend hours identifying birds and plants, flipping through old science books to match the creatures we’d seen, then sketching them together at the kitchen table. Those moments shaped me, teaching me to slow down, to truly see the world around me, and to capture what I found in the pages of my sketchbook.

That way of seeing led me to pursue a formal education in fine art, where I explored a wide range of artistic disciplines—traditional oil painting, figure studies, illustration, character design, sculpture, and more. Each medium strengthened my foundation and deepened my understanding of form, movement, and storytelling, shaping the artist I am today.

I’ve always been drawn to the colors most people pass by without noticing. The blues and purples tucked into a shadow, the soft pinks and icy blues that breathe through fresh snow, the way pine needles glow red in the first light of morning. As a tetrachromat, I see an even wider spectrum of color, and I love pulling those subtle hues forward, making them vibrant and undeniable, inviting others to notice them too.

My faith deepens this connection—every brushstroke is a reflection of the beauty God has woven into creation. Painting is my way of preserving that wonder, of sharing the quiet
awe I feel when I stand in nature and truly take it in. Through my art, I hope to encourage others to pause, to look a little closer, and to discover the extraordinary in what once seemed ordinary.
